Glass Fusing Basics I

"Getting Started" Series

Basics I is designed to give the complete beginner an introduction to Fused Glass and to teach a base of skills needed to participate in our Open Studio Time.

Begin your kilnforming journey with this class.  We start from the very beginning and learn the basics needed to put together a fused glass piece ready to go into the kiln.  Learn the different types and colors of glass available, how to control the shape of your finished piece during the fusing process (volume control), and the difference between a tack fuse and a full fuse.  Learn to cut and shape and combine the different types of glass into a project ready to be fired.  Using Bullseye tested compatible art glass for fusing, you will create a 7x7 square dish.  If time permits, you are also welcome to create 3 pendants for necklaces using art glass and dichroic glass (the shiny sparkly stuff!).

This class or equivalent knowledge is required before participating in our Open Studio Time, where you can use what you've learned to build more beautiful glass pieces and leave them to be fired at the studio.  This first day or our getting started series does not go into detail on operating the kiln or the theory behind firing schedules.

Those of you who wish to fire your own glass, own or are thinking of purchasing a kiln, or just want to understand the firing process in more depth should continue to the second and third day of our getting started series - Glass Fusing Basics II and Kiln Firing Classes.  The three classes together will provide you with the knowlege to begin your journey into this wonderful world of kiln-formed glass .......
