February 7: Dichroic Crackle
Have you noticed the fabulous jewelry pendants in the gallery by our local artist Chris Northrup? They appear to have bits of precious metal leaf embedded, but are actually a dichroic crackle. Today, Chris will show us the best way to choose, arrange, stack, and fire dichroic glass to achieve the best crackle.
February 14: Cool Stuff to do with Clear Scrap
Clear scrap accumulates more quickly than any other color because almost every glass project uses clear glass. Most people generate more clear scrap than they could ever use, but we don't like to throw any of this tested compatible glass in the recycle bin, do we? "I'll use it someday .....". Well here's your chance. Today we show you several ways to use that tested compatible clear scrap to create wonderful art!
February 21: Combing Demonstration
Watch a demonstration of glass combing or raking in a kiln at 1700 degrees. Safety and firing schedules are discussed as well as lay-ups for various looks.
 
February 28: Pulling Vitrigraph Stringer
Take a turn pulling hot glass vitrigraph stringer from the bottom of a Caldera kiln. It's loads of fun! We'll send you home with a pile of stringer to use in your own fused projects.

Reactions
Dramatic effects can be achieved by combining glass colors that react with each other. Learn various techniques to achieve a range of reactions combining certain colors of Bullseye glass with other colors or with copper or silver foil and leaf.
 
Thick Block - No cold-work required
Glass wants to flow to 6mm, or 1/4 inch when heated to full fuse temperatures.  I fwe contain that flow with dams and fiber paper, the edges of your piece will need to be cold-worked (ground and polished) Today we will demonstration the technique contained in the "Working Thick" tip sheet from Bullseye.  How to building thick glass blocks or panels with no cold-working required!  This technique is useful for wall panels or thick glass blocks but not for thick bowls or dishes.

Glass wants to flow to 6mm, or 1/4 inch when heated to full fuse temperatures. What if you desire a thicker dish or panel? Today is all about how to lay up a thicker piece. How to build dams for square or round projects, and how the thickness of your piece affects it's firing schedule.  After attending this demonstration and talk, the Finishing Lab is recommended for the last steps of finishing and polishing the edge of a thicker piece.
